ROOTS

Here is a very basic explanation of Qi Gong I tell my new students, without getting too "left brain" about it:

What is Qi Gong?
Qi  "chee" -energy, life force that flows through all things in the universe
Gong "gung" -work, or skill acquired through time and practice
It is the cultivation of energy, a self-healing practice to maintain health and increase vitality through breath, slow movement, and intention
Learn how to slow down->create the mental space you need->change what you want

Sources of Qi
  • Breath
  • Air
  • Food
  • Water
  • Environment
Movement and breath generate Qi
Qi is electromagnetic and circulates by way of energy channels or pathways (meridians), centers, and gateways throughout the body
The Mind plays an essential role in directing Qi (thoughts/intention)

Dan Tians
Reservoirs/Energy centers, 3 in the body
  • Upper- between the eyes above the brow (consciousness, brain function)
  • Middle-heart center (respiration, health of internal organs)
  • Lower- below the navel and inward 1-2 inches (reproductive organs)
Stores and propels Qi throughout the body
Behave like batteries that can be recharged through physical and spiritual practice

Benefits
Improves: circulation, concentration, memory, metabolism, digestion, coordination, balance, wellbeing, awareness
Increases: health, vitality, intuition, creativity
Creates: optimistic and joyous disposition, clear and tranquil mind, relaxation response to stress
